ZANSKAR: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, reaffirmed the UT Administration’s strong commitment to inclusive development, grassroots empowerment, and improved public infrastructure during a public meeting in Zanskar.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating several key developmental projects, he described the initiatives as vital milestones that will strengthen the region’s foundation for sustainable and long-term progress.
Kavinder Gupta dedicated four newly constructed Community Halls in Lungnak Block, built under the Special Development Package at a cost of Rs 1 crore. These halls, he said, will function as essential centres for community gatherings, social programs, educational activities, winter tuitions, and public outreach-helping enhance community bonding and strengthen grassroots engagement in remote areas of Ladakh.
The Lt Governor also launched the ‘Nayi Chetna 4.0’ Campaign, a national initiative promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, and gender-sensitive community environments. He emphasized that the campaign would play a crucial role in combating gender-based discrimination through awareness programmes, training sessions, workshops, and community involvement.
Another major initiative unveiled was the RGSA Training Calendar 2025-26, under which the Ministry of Panchayati Raj has approved Rs 9.82 crore for Ladakh’s Annual Action Plan. This year, 5,883 participants, including elected representatives, Panchayat Secretaries, frontline workers, and community leaders, will receive structured training worth Rs 1.88 crore. He said these capacity-building programmes will significantly enhance decentralized planning, digital governance, transparency, and accountability-ultimately contributing to the achievement of grassroots-level Sustainable Development Goals.
The Lt Governor acknowledged the continuous support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the development projects reflect the PM’s vision of strengthening and modernizing India’s border regions. He commended the people of Zanskar for their cooperation and resilience and urged them to carry forward these initiatives as a collective mission for a progressive and empowered Ladakh.
Executive Councillor LAHDC Kargil, Er Punchok Tashi, thanked the UT Administration for addressing the longstanding demand for district status for Zanskar and expressed hope for its early establishment. Administrative Secretary Shashanka Ala highlighted significant developmental achievements, including improved road connectivity, regular electricity supply, the completion of the NPD road and Karsha Block, and the construction of 620 houses under PMAY.
The event was attended by officials, councillors, SHG members, and community leaders.
