LeT ‘commander’ among 4 terrorists killed in north Kashmir


SRINAGAR: A Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) ‘commander’ was among four terrorists killed in a fierce gun fight with army troops in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Based on specific information, troops of 15 Rashtriya Rifles killed three militants near LoC this morning, Defence PRO Col S D Goswami said.
The contact with militants was established at midnight and in the fierce gun fight, three militants were killed in Kishangarh Ridge near the LoC, he said.
Three AK-47 Rifles, 15 magazines and 319 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, he said.
He also said that on the basis of specific intelligence input about presence of another terrorist in Laribag, a search operation was launched by the Rastriya Rifles unit located in the Handwara area around 0600 hours today, he said.
The area was cordoned and the terrorist was effectively engaged, Col Goswami said, adding that in the ensuing fire fight, the terrorist was killed.
The body of the slain terrorist along with one AK?47, one grenade and ammunitions were recovered, he said, adding the terrorist was identified as Umaar Bhatti, an LeT ‘commander’ operating in the Valley for the past 20 months.
