Lecture on demonitisation organised

JAMMU: Department of Economics, University of Jammu organised a lecture on the decision of the government to declare Rs. 500 and Rs.1000 notes no longer as legal tender.
Prof. Raj K. Mahajan from Punjabi University Patiala delivered a lecture on ‘Invalidating Rs.500 and Rs.1000 Currency Notes- a War Against Black Money’.
Prof. Mahajan delivered a lecture on black money in India: Issues and Challenges. He detailed about the issues, sources, estimates, challenges, model of black income generation, Hawala transaction and how it works and consequences of black money.
Prof. Mahajan also spoke about compulsions of controlling the black money and the challenges of the recent initiative of the Government of India. He appreciated the decision of the government and time of declaring Rs.500 and Rs. 1000 notes invalid in war against black money. It will help us to fight corruption in the civil life and elections would be expected to be fair comparatively and we shall be able to fight terrorism by blocking financial channels of terrorist organizations. He also assured the students that care should be taken that rumors and panic should not be created.
Earlier, Prof. Falendra Sudan, Head Department of Economics welcomed Prof. Raj K. Mahajan. Prof. Jasbir Singh introduced the speaker and read out his profile. Prof. Parkash Chand Antahal presented vote of thanks.
Among others, the programme was attended by Dr. Aroon Sharma, Dr. Sunita Sharma, Dr. Virender Koundal and Dr. Shallu Sehgal.
