The lawyers staged demonstrations at various places including the premises of the district court and the collectorate.
“We had announced earlier that we will not allow lok adalats to take place in any district of western Uttar Pradesh until our demand for separate High Court bench is not met,” Rajiv Tyagi, a lawyer, said.
Some lawyers threw chairs and registers at a local court’s premises during one of the protests.
There has been a long-standing demand for a separate bench of the HC in western UP in view of the inconvenience faced by litigants belonging to other regions of the state.
At present, Allahabad High Court has only one additional bench, at Lucknow, which caters to about a dozen districts situated in the vicinity of the state capital.
