SRINAGAR: Seeking people’s cooperation in saving the world-famous Dal and Nageen Lakes from falling prey to the greed of the encroachers, the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) today said stern action would be taken against the unscrupulous elements who are involved in raising illegal constrictions around the lakes.
“Unfortunately, some unscrupulous elements taking advantage of the prevailing law and order situation had started raising illegal constructions in and around the Lakes,” Mr Tehseen Mustafa, Vice-Chairman, LAWDA said.
He said after receiving reports about these illegal constructions and encroachments, the Enforcement Wing of LAWDA immediately swung into action and launched a demolition drive in and around the Lakes. He said already scores of such encroachments have been removed and the drive would continue with full intensity.
Mustafa said that besides raising illegal constructions in the prohibited area around these lakes, ironically some persons had even started encroachments within these water bodies by way of fresh earth filling. “We won’t allow the destruction of these water bodies and stern action would be taken against the elements who are misusing the prevailing situation to raise illegal constructions and indulge in encroachments,” he said and urged people to come forth with the information if they find any such illegal activity taking place in their respective areas.
Meanwhile, continuing its demolition drive, the Enforcement Wing of LAWDA today dismantled several illegal constructions at Lashkari Mohalla and Baghwanpora, Nageen.
LAWDA has warned the tipper and load carrier owners not to carry or ferry any sort of construction material in the prohibited area of the Dal and Nageen Lakes.
