Brazen arrogance of Congress leader
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Land grabbing politicians find state land as safe haven for unleashing their nefarious activities in connivance with unscrupulous officials. They don’t only grab premier plots of land but also indulge in unauthorised constructions without any restrictions. In fact, they find unscrupulous officers assisting them to carry out their misdeeds. However, it is different when politicians with brazen arrogance are confronted with honest officers who know only to carry out their duties with sincerity of purpose. In this corrupt system, they get nothing except snubs, humiliation and even thrashing by ruthless politicians and their hired or employed goons.
In a similar such incident on Thursday, Chief Enforcement Officer (CEO) of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was injured in a clash during an anti-encroachment drive against shops being constructed by a Congress leader.
Rajesh Gupta, CEO was injured in the clash which occurred during the demolition of four shops built by Congress leader Surinder Singh Shingari on government land at Maheshpura Chowk, a JMC spokesman said. Gupta has been hospitalised, the spokesperson added. Shingari has already constructed two shops while four were under construction on the encroached land.
Sources said the locals informed the JMC about the encroachment of state land and illegal constructions thereof.
A joint team of police and JMC officials rushed to the site to stop the illegal construction. Shinagri and his supporters clashed with the JMC staff which led to the injuries to the CEO.
The anti-encroachment drive was stopped while the matter was reported to the police. No FIR has been registered against Shingari and his supporters till the reports last came in.
Satish Khajuria, Chief Khilafwarzi Officer of JMC while talking to STATE TIMES said,” JMC will lodge an FIR tomorrow while the drive to completely dismantle illegal conduction shall start tomorrow or a day after.
The drive, being carried out by the Enforcement staff led by the Chief Enforcement Officer under the guidance of Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu, Kiran Wattal, has been intensified against unauthorised constructions in Maheshpura Chowk and Bakshi Nagar areas, he said.
A JMC spokesman appealed to the general public to seek proper building permissions before starting any construction work to avoid action which may lead to demolition of unauthorised and illegal constructions, he said.
