Lance Naik Anup Kumar Thapa cremated with full military honours

JAMMU: A funeral with full military honours was organised at Dehradun to pay homage to the martyr, Lance Naik Anup Kumar Thapa of 1/3 Gorkha Rifles who made the supreme sacrifice during a Counter Infiltration Operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in frontier district of Kupwara (J&K).
Last post was sounded and wreaths were laid on behalf of Chief of Army Staff, GOC-in-C Western Command and other military dignitaries in a solemn ceremony that concluded at Dehradun.
Lance Naik Anup Kumar Thapa was a highly motivated and a courageous soldier who performed his duties with utmost pride. The funeral was attended by all ranks of the cantonment besides civilian dignitaries and next of kin of the gallant soldier. Lance Naik Anup Kumar Thapa, was deployed while on active duty, in Kupwara sector, where a major infiltration bid was foiled with elimination of four terrorists in a fierce gun battle near the Line of Control. The gun fight erupted when the unit noticed movement of a group of heavily armed terrorists in the area. In the ensuing battle while eliminating the terrorists, Lance Naik Anup Kumar Thapa sustained gunshot wounds to which he later succumbed.
