Lakhanpur Zone bags kabaddi, kho-kho, v’ball titles

KATHUA: Lakhanpur Zone won under-14 kabaddi and under-17 kho-kho titles while Hiranagar Zone clinched under-14 and 17 volleyball titles in the Inter-zonal district level tournaments, organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at sports stadium, here which concluded on Wednesday.

The tournament in the disciplines of kho-kho, volleyball, kabaddi for u-14 and u-17 (boys) was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, Rishi Kumar and District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kathua, Sunil Kumar.

Principal, Government Higher Secondary School Kathua, Kuldeep Kumar Gupta was the Chief Guest in the concluding ceremony who gave away medals to winners and runners up.

He was accompanied by Activity In-charge, Kuldip Singh, ZPEOs, Pawan Kumar and Kailash Chander, Subash Chander Joginder Kumar, Kamal Kumar and Ashok Kumar.

Sallan Zone won under-14 kho-kho title by defeating Lakhanpur Zone by four points in the final. Earlier, Lakhanpur Zone beat Marheen Zone by one point in first semifinal while in second semifinal Sallan Zone defeated Kathua Zone by one point.

Lakhanpur Zone defeated Kathua Zone by four points and lifted under-17 kho-kho title. Earlier, first semifinal was won by Lakhanpur Zone who defeated Bani Zone by five points while Kathua Zone trounced Sallan Zone by five points in second semifinal.

Lakhanpur Zone defeated Hiranagar Zone by seven points and won under-14 kabaddi title while in under-17 Kathua Zone downed Marheen Zone by nine points and clinched the title.

In the first semifinal of under-17 kabaddi, Kathua Zone beat Hiranagar Zone by 20 points while Marheen Zone defeated Barnoti Zone by one point.

Hiranagar Zone defeated Lakhanpur Zone in two straight (2-0) sets in the final of under-17 volleyball. Earlier, first semifinal was won by Lakhanpur Zone by defeating Bani Zone by 2-0 and second semifinal went to Hiranagar Zone who beat Malhar Zone by 2-0.

Hiranagar Zone won under-14 volleyball title by outplaying Bhaddu Zone by 2-1.
