LEH: The Army’s Fire and Fury Corps organised a ‘Flag Off’ ceremony to dispatch fuel to Nubra Valley in tanker trucks procured for the first time by Ladakh Transport Co-operative Society.
Labelled as ‘Ladakh Tankers,’ these tankers will be lifeline to Nubra valley throughout the year and will routinely cross the world’s highest motorable pass – Khardungla, Defence Spokesperson said.
The Ladakh Transport Co-operative has undertaken the venture, overcoming decades old resistance due to the encouragement of army. Till date the fuel was being dispatched in barrels to Nubra valley which was labour intensive.
Initially the tankers would be sent to Nubra valley and subsequently as more tankers are acquired by the Co-operative Societies these will also be dispatched to other areas in Ladakh region.
