STATE TIMES NEWS
LEH: To pay tribute to the UT Martyrs Nawang, Dorjay and Stobdan on their 27th Death Anniversary, all business establishments in Leh will remain closed untill afternoon on Saturday. A function will be organised at the Martyrs’ Memorial Park at Skyatsaks wherein religious, political and social leaders of Leh are expected to pay homage to the trio-martyrs, offer prayers and also to speak on the importance of this day in the history of modern Ladakh.
Nawang Rinchen, Tsering Stobdan, and Tsewang Dorjey had to sacrifice their lives in firing on 27th August, 1989 when Ladakhis were agitating demanding grant of Union Territory (UT) status for Ladakh. Since then this day is being observed every year to pay homage to the Ladakhi Martyrs.
