SHOPIAN: Stressing that the Government is committed to socio-economic uplift of labour class, MLA Shopian, Mohammad Yosuf Bhat and MLA Wachi, Aijaz Ahmad Mir on Thursday said society needs to recognize and value their hard work. They said the present Government led by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti is very keen on empowering the labour class and various welfare measures are afoot in this regard.
The MLAs were speaking at a day-long awareness camp, organized by Labour Department at Circuit House Shopian which witnessed a large gathering of building and other construction workers, contractors and other working classes of the society. While highlighting the significance of the awareness programme, they said the main aim of the workshop is to educate the working section about their rights and their protection.
On the occasion, they distributed cheques worth Rs. 1.03 crore among 1092 beneficiaries which includes Rs. 84, 56,000 as educational assistance, Rs. 2, 52,550 as chronic disease assistance and Rs 16, 40,000 as death and funeral cases among building and other construction workers.
District Development Commissioner Shopian said the labourers are the prime constituent of the society and assured that the district administration will take every possible step for their welfare.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner informed that up to 2017, as many as 1092 beneficiaries have been covered among which Rs. 1, 03, 48,550 has been disbursed.
