REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu organised an in-service training programme for the State Agricultural Department officers at Chief Agriculture Office, Udhampur.
More than 10 departmental officers participated in the programme. Dr.Shahid Ahamad, Programme Co-ordinator, KVK, Reasi elaborated all about the disease management strategies in Kharif season crops. He narrated that in order to control the seed borne diseases farmers should treat the seeds before sowing of crops adding that this year maize crop in hilly areas is infested with the stalk rot disease which can be controlled with the mancozeb and streptocyclin treatment.
He also suggested the officers that farmers should drain the water from their fields to avoid the water-logging which is the major cause of stalk rot. He further enumerated that farmers should have plane fields for maize crop and there should not be any water stagnation in the fields as the maize crop is sensitive to the water. He also elaborated the pulses leaf spot diseases which he suggested the officers to control by the mancozeb spray.
He also suggested the officers that farmers should use disease resistant varieties and made aware the officers that Udhampur District has ample scope for ginger which is infested with the rhizome rot. He suggested the officers that farmers should treat the ginger rhizome rot with the mixture of mancozeb and bavistin. In this very occasion some officers asked quarries which Dr.Shahid answered in a satisfactorily way. On this programme SDAO and Chief Agricultural Officer were also present.
