REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised a Kisan Mela on Monday at Govt. High School Talwara in Pouni block of Reasi district which was attended by a large number of farmers of the area.
Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Prof. Sharma was the Chief Guest of the programme while Dr. Sumati Sharma was the Guest of Honour. The Mela was organised under the Vice Chancellor to Village Programme. All the SOPs under COVID-19 pandemic were strictly followed while conducting the event. The major objective of the programme was to create mass awareness among the farmers about the new technologies in agriculture and allied sectors. Large number of farmers from different areas of Reasi district participated in the fair.
An Exhibition was also organized during the event to show case the various technologies in which different department, NGOs, private firms and progressive farmers participated. Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Dr.S K Gupta in his welcome address thanked the Chief Guest and suggested farmers to avail the benefits of centrally/state sponsored programmes/schemes. Speaking on this occasion Chief Guest said that, in order to give a push to agriculture marketing linkages need to be strengthened. He stressed on FPOs and value added agriculture.He appreciated the street play(Nukad Natak) organised for conveying the message about the organic farming in the most effective manner. He appreciated the role of KVK for the efforts on organic farming.
Progressive farmers, departments and private firms were felicitated during the Mela. Dr. Sumati Sharma appreciated the women SHGs for their efforts for handcrafted products.
Dr.Banarsi Lal,Sr.Scientist-cum-Head of KVK, Reasi stressed on organic farming and urged farmers to avail the benefits of KVK. Dr. Lalit Upadhyay, Scientist conducted the proceedings the Mela. Dr. Sanjay Kaushal, Scientist gave a detailed lecture on organic farming. Dr.Pawan Sharma, Scientist motivated the farmers for their endeavours on organic farming, lemon grass farming etc. Vote of thanks were presented by Dr.Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist-cum-Head of KVK, Reasi.
Chief Agriculture Officer, Rajinder Thaploo spoke on the value addition in lemon grass farming and guided farmers on new technologies in agriculture. Exhibitions stalls were also put up during the event.
Chief Animal Husbandry and Asstt. Director Fisheries ,Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Dr. Arvinder Kumar, Jagdish Kumar, Manohar Lal, Mohd. Iqbal and Sanjay Kumar were also present during the occasion.
