Rajouri: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra Rajouri under the aegis of Sher e Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu organised the twelfth meeting of Scientific Advisory Committee for Rajouri district as well as a Rabi Kissan Mela for the farmers of the district.
The meeting as well as Kisan Mela were organised in the premises of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Rajouri in which Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Prof. J P Sharma was chief guest whereas Director Extension, Dr. SK Gupta was guest of honour.
The meeting of Scientific Advisory Committee for Rajouri district was participated by Chief Agriculture Officer Rajouri, Mahesh Verma, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Rajouri Dr. JK Gupta, DDM NABARD Kanav Sharma, Area Marketing Officer Horticulture P&M, Arvind Panjgotra, Assistant Director Fisheries Sh. Munish Sharma and progressive farmers who are members of committee.
In the outset of meeting, Sr. Scientist & Head KVK Rajouri, Dr. Arvind Ishar briefed the house presented progress report of the institution and efforts in offing for development of farmers with main focus on doubling farmers income, through integrated farming system, organic farming and agricultural based skill development practices.
Other government department officers also enlisted the efforts being made under various government sectors and schemes and also suggested various activities to be taken up by KVK Rajouri in its action plan in times to come.
Director Extension on, Dr. SK Gupta also discussed in detail the need of the hour in terms of betterment of farmers besides suggesting a number of steps which shall be taken up by KVKs across Jammu region. Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Jammu, Prof. JP Sharma while hailing the efforts of KVK Rajouri said that KVKs are vital institutions across the country which have emerged as one stop destination for betterment of farmers. The Vice Chancellor also hailed the efforts of Government of India by introducing new farming bills which will strengthen the agriculture sector and will prove beneficial for farmers in terms of marketing of their produce as they are free to sell their produce in open market.
Later, a Rabi Kissan Mela was also organised which was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof.JP Sharma in which hundreds of farmers from across the district took part who were made aware about latest agriculture practices by the agriculture experts of KVK and Regional Agriculture Research Station Rajouri.
An exhibition for farmers was also organized for the farmers in the sidelines of this Rabi Kissan Mela. The proceedings of Kisan Mela were done by Dr. Pawan Sharma and Dr. Rakesh Sharma of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST, Jammu.
The events were attended by Dr. Deepak Kumar, Dr. Vikas Sharma, Dr. Surj Parkash, Dr. Vishal Sharma and other scientists of KVK and RARS.
