Krishan of Punjab lifts 5th Panya Kesari Dangal title

KATRA: Wrestler Krishan of Patiala in Punjab lifted Fifth Panya Kesari Dangal title by defeating wrestler Sabba of Amritsar in main bout that lasted for 18 minutes at High School, Panya Dager in Tehsil Akhnoor. Dangal was organised by Panj Peer Dangal Committee Panya in collaboration with J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association (JKISWA) under the overall supervision of President JKISWA Shiv Kumar Sharma, President Panya Dangal Committee Ram Paul Sharma and Chairman Deep Raj.
Joint Secretary, J and K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma was the Chief Guest, who distributed cash prizes among the wrestlers.
Sharma is also Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India, Associate Vice-President Wrestling Federation of India and President Senior Citizens Welfare Forum Katra.
Retd. DFO Inderjeet Khajuria, Retd. SP Prithvi Raj Sharma and Retd. Tehsildar Bansi Lal Sharma were the Guests of Honour.
Winner of main bout wrestler Krishan was awarded with cash prize of Rs 71,000 along with traditional Gurj (Gadda) and Patta of Panya Kesari by Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ram Paul Sharma, Bansi Lal Sharma and Deep Raj while runner-up wrestler Sabba got Rs 50,000 by Inderjeet Khajuria, Prithvi Raj Sharma, Bansi Lal Tidyal and Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri).
In all, 36 bouts were played in the day long Dangal.
Second main bout was won by Pravesh of Bahadurgarh, Harayana who defeated Birju of Delhi. Pravesh was awarded with cash prize of Rs 50,000 while Birju got Rs 40,000. Third bout was again won by Pravesh of Harayana who defeated Abdul Gani of Mallerkotla while fourth bout was won by Mohanu of Sat Paul Akhara Dehi who defeated Benia Min of J and K Police in 13 minutes. Winner got Rs 35,000 while Benia was awarded with Rs 30,000.
Members and technical officials who helped for conduct of this one day wrestling event included Deep Raj (Chairman), Ram Paul Sharma (President), Bansi Lal Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Mulk Raj Sharma, Padam Kumar, Romesh Sharma, Naresh Fouji, Raj Kumar, Bali Ram Sharma, Kamal Sharma, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Virender Badyal, Bansi Lal Tidyal, Mulk Raj Sharma, Prem Kumar, Raj Kumar, Kulbir Singh, Deepak Wazir, Jagveer, Ashok Dhaka and Ashok Kumar Arjuna Awardee.
