Kishtwar terror attack: Two VDG members martyred

LG, CM, Chugh condemn attack

KISHTWAR: Two Village Defence Guards (VDGs) were martyred in a terror attack in kuntwara area of Kishtwar on late Thursday evening.
As per reports of Police Post Kuntwara, two VDG members (shepherds) namely Nazir Ahmed, son of Mohd Khalil, resident of Ohli Kuntwara and Kuldeep Kumar, son of Amar Chand, resident of Ohli Kuntwara were gone to Munzla Dhar (Adhwari) for grazing their cattle but didn’t return to their homes late in the evening. Later there dead bodies were found in forest area.
Initially, these VDGs were reported missing amid apprehensions that they were abducted by terrorists. Police said, a massive joint search operation was launched by police and the Army in a dense forest area.
“We received information that my brother along with Ahmad was abducted. They were VDGs and have gone for grazing cattle as usual,” Kuldip Kumar’s brother Prithvi told. Prithvi said his father Amar Chand died a week ago and the loss of his brother came as another big shock for the family.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Tigers, an offshoot of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror outfit, has claimed that they killed the VDGs.
Reacting to the killings, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “We are firmly resolved to destroying all terror outfits and avenging this barbaric act.”

JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah and VP & Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have also condemned the gruesome killing of two village defence guards in Kishtwar namely Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar, in a forest area. They have said that such acts of barbaric violence remain a significant impediment in achieving long lasting peace in J&K. In this hour of grief, their thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased. BJP leader Tarun Chugh condemned the Terror attack on two VDGs in Kishtwar District of Jammu Division.
Talking to media, Chugh said that this cowardly act is not just an attack on innocent lives but also an assault on collective humanity.He said that such acts of terrorism must be met with unwavering resolve. “We must not allow fear to dictate our lives.”He said it’s a slap on those who support such actions and are unhappy with the peace in Jammu and Kashmir.He also said that security forces will crush every terror plot in Jammu and Kashmir.Security forces are relentlessly dismantling terrorist networks to ensure public safety, Chugh said.”Those who commit such heinous crimes should face the harshest consequences. We cannot let terrorism thrive; it must be eradicated from our society”, he added.
