JAMMU: “Games are the best option for the youth to avoid their inclination towards the Drug abuse. All members/volunteers of Team Jammu are doing their level best to create awareness to keep away the youth of Jammu Province from this killer addiction,” said Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal while addressing the budding players of Nagrota Block, here on Tuesday.
The two-day long sports competition of various games under different categories was organised by State Sports Council as a part of Government of India’s Khelo India event.
While congratulating the winners, and runners-up boys and girl students, Chairman Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal also appreciated the faculty members of various government and private Schools as well as parents of the players who encouraged their children to participate in sports events besides concentrating on their academics.
“As academics are important in our life in career making, sports and co-curricular activities are also necessary in mental and physical growth of children and once must encourage boys and girls in such events so that they could shine at State, national as well as international level,” asserted Zorawar Singh Jamwal adding that “Participation in such events also inculcate team spirit as well as discipline among youth. Sports is one such important arena where children can be saved from getting trapped in the clutches of Drug Mafia, which is targeting the youth every day.”
Retired Joint Director, Dharam Chand, SHO Police Station, Nagrota and veteran Athlete, Inspector Daljeet Singh and Sarpanch, Nagrota, Rameshwar Dutt Sharma were Guest of Honours in the event organised under the supervision of Ashok Singh, District Sports Officer, State Sports Council and Kabaddi Coach, Ankush Gupta.
In boys 100 mtrs, Nasir Hussain bagged first prize, while Ram Krishan clinched first prize in Shot Put. Asif Ali got first prize in Long Jump while Deepu Bhat and Tanvir shared title in boxing event.
In volleyball finals, boys team of Army Public School secured title after defeating Government High School, Nagrota that got second prize.
In girls volleyball event, team of Army Public School Nagrota shined after defeating Government Girls High School, Katal Batal. In Kabaddi, Girls High School, Jagti bagged first prize.
While in wrestling event, 45-48 kg category, Nadeem got first prize, 48-52 kg,
Umar bagged first prize, 52-56 kg category, Rohit received first prize and in 56-60 kg category Danish was adjudged winner.
