STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: The arrested former PRO of former DyCM was on Saturday night rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital here as his condition deteriorated allegedly due to overdose of drugs.
While police is tight-lipped how drugs were smuggled to the ‘VIP’ inmate in the lock-up of Pacca Danga Police Station, the emphasis is currently on to have the detenue treated.
Doctors attending on Kewal Sharma reported to have washed his stomach after he was admitted in an unconscious condition.
His ECG and other parameters are fine, said doctors at emergency wing of the GMC hospital.
Meanwhile, Special Judge Anticorruption, Jammu Sanjeev Gupta this morning rejected the bail application of Kewal Sharma arrested in Disproportionate Assets case.
According to Vigilance, an FIR has been registered against the petitioner Kewal Sharma, son of Gian Chand, resident of Kachrial, Pallanwala in Akhnoor for amassing disproportionate assets of more than Rs. 4 crore to the known sources of his legitimate income during a period of two years (2013-2014).
The Court was further informed that the assets allegedly acquired by the petitioner with illegal means include one double-storied house at Patta Paloura Jammu, one residential house constructed at Border Migrants Colony in Akhnoor,  one residential house at village Dhangar, Kachrial, renovation and extension of ancestral house at village Kachrial, 17 Marla land in Khasra No. 1312 Patta Paloura, Jammu.
It was further informed that Kewal had also purchased luxury and commercial vehicles worth about Rs. 1 crore and had also made several foreign tours in violation of service conduct rules involving huge expenditure. Eight bank accounts have been detected in the name of the petitioner and his family members involving transactions between Rs. 3.50 crore to Rs. 4 crore.
The Court was also informed that the petitioner had purchased a residential flat at Ghaziabad amounting Rs. 75 lakh out of which Rs. 70 lakh had been transferred in the name of Dr. Davendre Garg from whom the flat was purchased. The amount was transferred through RTGS from the account opened by petitioner in the name of his wife, Baby Koul on fake documents.
The Court was informed that the petitioner had deposited and withdrawn crores of rupees from his own account and the accounts of his family members but he is not cooperating with the investigating officer and threatening witnesses.
After hearing Senior Prosecuting Officer Ajay Dogra appearing for Vigilance and Advocate A.K Shan appearing for the accused, the Court observed that economic offences constitute a class apart and need to be visited with a different approach in the matter of bail. The economic offence having deep rooted conspiracies and involving huge loss of public funds needs to be viewed seriously, the Court added.
The Court further observed that liberty of an individual is precious and should be protected by the Courts but such a protection cannot be absolute in every situation. The valuable right of liberty of an individual and the interest of the society in general has to be balanced, the Court added.
With these observations, the Court rejected the bail application of Kewal Sharma.
