Kavya wins bronze for J&K in shooting

JAMMU: Kavya Kochhar of Jammu and Kashmir bagged bronze medal in 10 meters Air Pistol event in the just concluded All India Kumar Surendra Singh Inter-School Shooting Championship in Sub-Junior Girls category which was held at Assansol in West-Bengal. A total of two shooters participated in this championship from J and K.
Earlier, Shreya Saksena of Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association won a gold medal in 50 meters Rifle 3-position (NR) in both junior and senior women categories in 36th North-Zone Shooting Championship which was held at New-Delhi in the first week of this month. She also got gold medals in both junior and senior categories with the score 609.1/600 in same championship. A total of 24 shooters were there in J and K team, a handout issued by the association here on Sunday informed.
The shooters who participated in both championships were selected on the performance in district level championships and Seventh J and K State Shooting Championship 2016 which was recently held at Katra from 23rd to 28th August.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Dilbag Singh along with other members of Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association congratulated the medal winners and coach Rajesh Virdhy and hoped that J and K marksmen will secure more medals in forthcoming National Level Competitions and bring pride for the State.
