JAMMU: The industry has demanded grant of compensation to transport sector hit badly by the unrest in the Kashmir Valley for the last many months.
“It is our earnest request to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for the grant of compensation to transport sector … in view of it being hit by Kashmir unrest,” Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Jammu (CCIJ) President Rakesh Gupta told reporters here on Thursday.
Gupta, who today called on Chief Minister with a charter of demands, said that the transport sector that include taxis, buses, trucks has been hit badly by the unrest in the Valley for the last many months.
The chamber also welcomed the state government’s decision on amnesty in GST, saying it would provide great relief to the businessmen.
It however demanded Amnesty to transporters on Passenger Tax. “It may not be out of place to mention that the conditions in which the transporters are working as every time there is unrest & turmoil or border firing, this sector gets hit on the very first day”, Gupta said.
“We would request you to pass on necessary directions to the Finance Ministry and other concerned to issue necessary notification announcing Amnesty for Passenger Tax”, he said.
On the issue of laws for Physically Challenged, he said “We would like to request to your goodselves please to get necessary amendments in the Disability Act of the State and bring it at par with the Disability Act of Government of India which would be great steps towards helping suffering humanity” CCIJ also called for parking space at Residency Road in Jammu, the main hub of shopping in the city. “We would like to bring to your kind notice that parking of vehicles has become almost impossible at Residency Road that houses thousands of commercial establishments including hotels and also is the gateway to the VVIP area i.e. Wazarat Road”, he added.
