Kalah Swanka defeats Khour in Volleyball Tourney Slathia exhorts youth to strive for excellence

SAMBA: Former Minister and Senior State Vice President Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Surjit Singh Slathia on Sunday said that localised competitions are imperative for giving sports a big boost and place the budding sportsmen in good stead to compete various events.
“Holding volleyball competition will go a long way in motivating youth to take up traditional sports and make a mark at various levels”, Slathia said at the prize giving ceremony of a volleyball event at Khour Salarian Nandpur here this evening.
The Kalah Swanka team defeated Khour team in the finals of Sahibzadey Memorial Volleyball Tournament and Slathia gave away the prizes to winner and runner up teams.
The former minister said that sports have immense potential as a career and therefore talented ones should concentrate on their chosen games with avowed objective of achieving excellence.
Slathia, who was Chief Guest on the occasion, expressed the hope that the local youth will make their mark in various sports and bring laurels to their
area and the State in
particular. He said such events provide an opportunity to the budding sportspersons wrestlers to benefit from veterans and emulate various techniques, which will sharpen their talent.
He complimented the participants and congratulated the winners for their excellent performance and hoped they will leave indelible mark in various events being held at
district, State and national levels.
Besides a large number of sports lovers, the tournament was witnessed by Sarpanch Rampal Sharma, Sarpanch Darshan Kumar of Khour Slaria, Sarpanch Tajinder Singh of Awtaal, Sarpanch Om Parkash Choudhary of Dug, Sarpanch Prem Pal Chodhary of Barota, Sarpanch Subhash Chander of Gadwal and Retired DSP H.S Gill.
