JUVC hoists National Flag on his maiden visit to Kathua Campus

Kathua Campus, University of Jammu celebrated “Har Ghar ,Tiranga” on the eve Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav today in its Campus at Jangalote, Kathua wherein Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest and Raghunandan Singh, DDC Vice Chairman, Kathua was the Guest of Honour. The celebration started with the Tiranga rally that was led Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and all the students, teaching and non-teaching staff, NSS volunteers and prominent citizens of Kathua participated in the rally. The rally was followed by the flag hoisting ceremony in the Campus by the Vice Chancellor, JU, and DDC Vice Chairman after which the national anthem was also recited. The Chief Guest and Guest of Honour were given the traditional welcome by the Rector, students and faculty.

While addressing the students and prominent citizens on his maiden visit, Prof. Umesh Rai, applauded the achievements of the Campus and said that Kathua Campus is fast emerging as a resource for the educational development of the people of Kathua. He appreciated the leadership of Dr. Meenkshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus in taking the Campus to new heights and meeting up the challenges of the time. Giving his vision for the curriculum he said that the curriculum has to be framed in such a manner that those having expertise in the subject must be guiding the students. He further added that in this ‘AzadikaMahotsav’, we must pledge to have integrity and honesty as a principle for making our nation resurgent.”

Speaking on the occasion, Raghunandan Singh, DDC Vice Chairman, Kathua exhorted that Kathua is the region of martial people who have sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the nation and students must learn from such examples. He further added that the civil society and leadership of Kathua is committed to contribute to the progress of the Campus in best possible ways.

Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus and Director DIQA, JU while presenting the welcome address introduced the faculty and staff to all the participants. She further explained that the Campus is hoisting the flag for the first time and that too on the occasion of ‘AzadikaAmritMahotsav’. While appreciating the dynamic team of the Campus, she narrated that we at Kathua Campus are dedicated to provide skilled based comprehensive education to the students and Campus shall come up with new start-ups and incubations in the coming times.

Brief presentation about the Campus beside the faculty achievements was given Dr. Saurabh Shastri, Head of Department of Computer Science. Introduction of AzadiKaAmritMahotsav was given by Dr. Mahesh Koul, Faculty, the Management School. He also presented his book ‘Jammu and Kashmir: Breaking the subversive web and a way forward to the Vice Chancellor and all other dignitaries.

An open interaction with the civil society of the Kathua was also held on the occasion that was coordinated by the Pankaj Khajuria, Assistant, Registrar, Kathua Campus. The Interaction Session was aimed at putting forth various ideas by which different stakeholders of the Campus may contribute to the growth of the Campus and the Campus may in turn pay back to society.

NSS unit VI of University of Jammu, Kathua Campus led by its Programme Officer Amit Sharma organised the said Tiranga rally and plantation drive wherein saplings were planted by the Vice Chancellor, JU, and other dignitaries in which a large number of NSS volunteers also participated.

A formal Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Susheel Sharma, Coordinator, UIET, Kathua Campus, JU. He appreciated and thanked the contributions of one and all. The proceedings of the Programme were aptly conducted by Dr. Shivani Sharma, faculty member of the UIET, Kathua Campus. Among others, Dr Neeraj Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor, Dr Imran Farooq, faculty members, members of Civil society, Scholars, and students were also present on the occasion.
