NEW DELHI: During the Question Hour of the winter session in the Lok Sabha, Member of Parliament from Jammu-Reasi Constituency, Jugal Kishore Sharma, strongly pressed for the declaration of the vital Samba-Udhampur road as a National Highway. He urged the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to upgrade and widen the entire stretch into a four-lane corridor at the earliest.
Raising the issue with urgency, the MP emphasised that the Samba-Mansar-Udhampur road serves as a crucial inter-district link, witnessing heavy daily traffic and facilitating essential movement for commuters, traders, and emergency services. He pointed out that the current road conditions are inadequate to support the rapidly increasing vehicular load.
Calling the stretch a lifeline for the region, Sharma stated that the deteriorated condition of the road has resulted in frequent accidents, causing loss of precious lives and property. “Considering its importance and heavy traffic, the road must be declared a National Highway, and widening work to four lanes should begin without delay,” he asserted in the House.
He further appealed to the Ministry to expedite approval of the proposal, conduct required surveys, and ensure early commencement of the widening project to improve regional connectivity and public safety.
