JU organises training, orientation programme

JAMMU: A seven-day Training and Orientation programme for NSS Programme Officers of Jammu Region was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu (JU), Prof. R.D Sharma.

The programme is being organized by the office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS, University of Jammu in collaboration with TORC, Chandigarh.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof, Sharma called to develop the faculties of thinking, analysis and reason and a habit of learning, to increase the general awareness and knowledge and to impart education of excellence as well as of relevance to contemporary needs.

He asked the Programme Officers to understand their responsibility and become role models for their students so that they also emulate the same.

Addressing the participants in the Orientation Programme, Prof. Sharma called for generating awareness among the students and said that NSS programme is a value creation system. He asked the  Programme Officers to generate interest among the students and also to create  awareness of national and social problems requiring attention. He said that the change will come automatically when the students understand their responsibility towards the society.

He also expressed satisfaction over adopting of villages by some colleges and said that all the institutions should come forward and work for the welfare of the society especially for those in need. He advised them to dedicate at least one day in a week or a month towards the social cause.

Around 45 Programme officers are participating in the orientation programme.

Dr. Vishav Raksha, Programme Coordinator, NSS, University of Jammu in her welcome address spoke about the features and working of NSS as an important national scheme and how the orientation programmes are important for the NSS Programme officers. Further Dr. Satyavir Malik, Director, TORC while addressing the gathering apprised about the working of NSS.

The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Hema Gandotra, NSS Programme Officer, University of Jammu. Shakun Sharma conducted the programme.

Others who were present on the occasion were Jai Kumar Sharma, Spl secretary to VC, Prof. Jasbir Singh, Chairman NSS campus units JU, Dr. Anupama Vohra, Dr. Monika Narang and Dr. Neharica Subhash.
