JAMMU: University of Jammu (JU) shall be hosting the North Zone Inter-University Badminton (men and women) Tournament from 27th October on the campus, here.
In all, 48 teams in men and 46 in women section from North Zone have confirmed their entries for the competition which is being held under the banner of Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor (VC), JU, Prof M.P.S Ishar in an interaction with the media, here on Friday.
“The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has extended a helping hand in the shape of technical officials, referees and chief referee during the five-day event. Some of the technical officials will be from the JU and Badminton Association of J and K,” informed the VC.
The event shall be declared open by the Minister for Sports, Raman Bhalla whereas in the valedictory function, scheduled for 31st October, Minister for PHE, Sham Lal Sharma shall give away the prizes.
For holding the competition, JU has prepared three Hawa courts at the multipurpose Gymnasium Hall on the campus while other venue shall be the badminton hall of the District Police Lines (DPL), here.
Also present were Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau and General Secretary of Badminton Association of J and K, O.D Sharma.
