JAMMU: The Academic Council of Jammu University, which met today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor, Prof R.D Sharma took various important decisions.
Seeking active participation of all the members on the various issues of academic importance, Prof. Sharma called upon the members of the Academic Council to further improve the rankings of the University by working on the various parameters and also to strive for achieving academic excellence to make this institution a hub of higher learning in this part of the country.
Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar JU presented the agenda items for threadbare discussions and decision on the same thereof. Total of 37 agenda items were discussed along with the action taken report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council.
The Academic Council endorsed the separation of the Department of Electronics from the Department of Physics and Electronics. The adoption of UGC guidelines on Determination of a Uniform Span Period within which a student may be allowed to qualify a degree was also endorsed in the meeting. Bifurcation of ‘Board of Sports and Youth Welfare’ and ‘Board of Students Welfare’ was also endorsed.
The Academic Council also endorsed the Placement Policy of the University. Action taken by the Vice chancellor in having authorized the introduction of the subject of Environmental Sciences in B. Com(Hons.) and B. A. English (Hons) was also confirmed during the meeting.
The recommendations of the committee with respect to revised norms/ guidelines for the elections of the Students Union in the University as per the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines were also endorsed. Item with regard to Skill Development initiatives for enhancing employability of youth was also endorsed. Adoption of guidelines for checking Plagiarism was also endorsed.
Various other important academic issues of the University and the off-site campuses were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Jigar Mohd, Dean Research Studies, Deans of various Faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, Deans of the various faculties of the University of Kashmir, College Principals and other officials of the University.
