JU, Fist Fighters Club organise marathon to commemorate 153rd Gandhi Jayanti

Tina Sahi wins first prize in 35-45 years category

JAMMU: The University of Jammu in collaboration with Fist Fighter Club organised the second edition of the half marathon to commemorate 153rd Gandhi Jayanti.
Prof Umesh Rai, the Chief Guest, flagged off the marathon rally.
To cherish & rejuvenate ideals propounded by Mahatma Gandhi, one of which was emphasis on cleanliness, Prof Rai also launched Swachta Abhiyan on the campus.
He urged that the university must endeavour to follow the vision of the Prime Minister and Chancellor and lead by example and contribute to the well-being of society.
Vice-Chancellor further added that Under NEP 20, Sports is an integral part of the curriculum.
Prof Rai congratulated organisers and the Non-Teaching Employees Union for choosing 2nd October as an occasion where members of the university and the civil society got together to pay tribute to Father of the Nation and the freedom fighter, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, known for his ideals of ‘Ahimsa’.
Prof Prakash Anathal, Dean Students Welfare, JU, former Minister R.S Chib and SSP Randhir Singh were Special Guests on the occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor in presence of dignitaries also distributed the medals and trophies to the winner and the runner-up of the marathon.
Daughter of Soil, Tina Sahi from Basohli, added another feather to his cap by winning first prize in Marathon. Tina Sahi, Ladakh Marathon fame earlier, participated in the 10 kilometre run in 35-45 years category and won first prize.
Mother of two children, Tina Sahi started running in 2018 and with hard work and dedication she achieved rapid progress in it.
In international event of 100 days run with National Flag, Tina Sahi ranked 5th in world and claimed 4th position in India in another 100 days run.
Popularly known as Iron lady, Tina Sahi also win Leh marathon 42. 195 km by completed it in 6 hours & 6 minutes.
She secured 14th position amongst 5000 runners from world in marathon.
