JU conducts theatre workshops for children

JAMMU: Vice-Chancellor (VC), University of Jammu, Prof. R.D Sharma on Friday inaugurated a seven days Children Theatre Workshop for the wards of university employees at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
Emphasising on all-round development of the children, Vice Chancellor said that curricular activities along with studies are also equally important.
He said in today’s competitive world, a child today must make their own individual development their primary focus in life and added that “those who maintain this focus will go a long way toward creating a positive action for themselves”.
Expressing satisfaction over the organisation of such programmes involving children into the performing arts, Prof. Sharma said exposure to the arts at a young age will lay the foundation for a culture of understanding and appreciation that will last a lifetime.
Greeting the participating students and their parents on the occasion of New Year, Prof. Sharma said that the greetings and blessings which are felt from the heart become very potent and he also hoped that the workshop will prove beneficial for all.
The workshop is being organised by Department of Students Welfare and is being conducted by Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor and Ifra Kak, Cultural Officer. Since last year, the Department has started this Children Theatre Workshop and this is second in the series. Around 45 children are taking part in this workshop.
In his address, Prof. Pankaj K. Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare dwelt upon the basic idea of conducting this unique workshop within the campus. He said that such workshops not only enhance the confidence, imagination and creativity amongst the children but will also inculcate a sense of belonging towards the institution among the wards of the employees.
Earlier, Dr. Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students Welfare presented the welcome address. Sumeet Sharma conducted the event whereas Prof. Alka Sharma, Co-Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee presented the formal vote of thanks.
The children who are participating in the workshop are Stuti Saigal, Hemanish Tripathy, Damini Sadotra, Lakshita Singh Chib, Dixit Gupta, Surpreet Singh, Avilash Shawney, Kritagya Shawney, Zaheer Abbas, Mohd. Aftab, Kamya Langer, Saksham Bharti, Kartikay Singh, Shreya Sharma, Harsha Tikoo, Siya Parihar, Jiya Parihar, Himanshu Kundal, Monika Sharma, Urvashi Sharma, Bhanu Sma, Diksha Tikoo, Agrim Billowria, Adhyan Billowria, Anirudh Verma, Bharghav Verma, Niharika Bemzai, Thvisha Bemzai, Anshika Kotwal, Hardik Bajaj, Aman Sharma, Aneesh Sharma, Ashwika, Kartik Sharma, Tathagat Chandra Shekhar, Tasmia Sohrab, Kritika Dutt, Anandita Dutt, Swara Sharma, Aalap Sharma, Iva Bharti, Anmol Kohli, Divam Divyanshu, Ira Vaid and Lavanya Verma.
