JMC plantation drive covers 11 schools

JAMMU: Jammu Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Social Forestry Jammu and M/s Samaya Group continued its five-day mega plantation drive for celebrating Van Mahotsav from 8th to 12th August 2016.
The idea of the drive is to spread the importance of plantation to the schools, colleges, institutions and general masses who can become flag bearers for the green movement in Jammu City.
Today, a total of 11 schools/institutions are covered and around 1,000 plants are planted.
On the occasion, MLA Jammu (East) Rajesh Gupta was the Chief Guest at Government Gandhi Memorial Science College, Canal Road, Jammu. He took an active participation in planting saplings in the college premises and congratulated the organisers on taking up this initiative in educational institutions across Jammu. He emphasized that children and educators can play a vital role in taking forward the campaign and help in achieving the goal of Green Earth.
Oath ceremony also took place with a message ‘Plant Trees, Save Trees’.
The trees planted by the students under the campaign ‘Each One Plant One’ with the planter taking the charge of the sapling and ensuring its care. Assistant Commissioner (Rev) Subah Mehta (KAS), Vice Principal Prof. Ashok and Payal Saraf of M/s Samaya Group & Hotel 17 Miles along with faculty and students were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, a plantation was also organized at SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu, in collaboration with the NSS unit of college.
Principal J.L Bhagat stressed upon the students to highlight the importance of trees in our life.
ACR Subah Mehta and Revenue Officer, Ashwani Sudan also presented on the occasion. The programme was conducted under the supervision of NSS Programme Officer, Prof Pawan Gupta and Prof Rashmi Arya.
