JAMMU: Under the directions of Commissioner JMC, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Joint Comm-issioner (Adm.) R.S Jamwal, the Municipal Veterinary Officer (MVO), Dr Jaswant Singh launc-hed drive against selling of sub-standard meat and realised Rs 8,400 as fine from the defaulters.
MVO along with other staff conducted surprise drive at Bantalab, Janipur, Newplot, Subash Nagar, Rehari, CPO Chowk, Panjtirthi, etc. and checked various meat shops.
During the drive, it was observed that some of the meat sellers was selling unstamped meat and even exposing it to the general public by hanging outside their shops.
During the drive a fine to the tune of Rs 8,400 was realised from the defaulters and on spot instructions along with strict warning was given to the meat sellers not to sell sub-standard meat to the consumers at any cost which is detrimental to the health of consumers.
While checking fishmongers it was noticed that majority of them are doing this business in open along the roadsides and are throwing all the unconsumed parts and other wastes especially thermocol boxes to the nearby drains thus leading to blockade, foul smell and attracting stray dogs and other rodents.
Strict warning was also given to them not to throw their wastes in open and in drains and supply fresh and hygienic fish to the consumers that too after getting proper licence/permission from the concerned authorities.
