JMC demolition drive: JKNPP seeks similar action along Tawi banks

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Hailing the proactive approach of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in demolishing unauthorised constructions mushroomed in and around Jammu City, Neeraj Gupta Zonal President JKNPP and party’s contested candidate from Jammu West Assembly Constituency on Thursday asked the civic body to also initiate similar action against unauthorized constructions raised along the banks of River Tawi falling under its jurisdiction.
Addressing a press conference, Neeraj asked from municipal authorities about the status of these dwellings which have come up along the Tawi banks. He asked whether these are regularized or not. “In case these are not regularized then why the proactive civic body is shying away from taking action against the defaulters by initiating similar demolition drive as is being conducted at other places?” He questioned. He also expressed apprehension that people living near river bed are under great risk as during rainy season the Tawi usually swells resulting into large scale devastation. He also sought strict action against those JMC employees who allowed these defaulters to raise unauthorized construction. He alleged that similar is the case in various upcoming markets where JMC officials allow illegal constructions to go unabated and thereafter harass the owners on one pretext or the other.
Simranjeet Singh, Mohinder Singh, Baldev and Surjeet Singh were also present in the press conference.
