STATE TIMES NEWS

HIRANAGAR: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) held a protest at Hiranagar, district Kathua demanding resolution of their decades old legitimate final settlement as per JPC report of Home affairs till POK is librated from the illegal occupation of Pakistan and assessment is made regarding the loss of lives and properties the DPs left behind and payment for the compensation thereof. Later on a memorandum was also submitted to LG , Manoj K. Sinha through SDM Hiranagar.
All the executive members of JKSAC and DPs of Tehsil Mahreen and Hiranagar assembled at Hiranagar Chowk under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee led by Ashok Sharma, President, Khem Raj, Deepak Raina and Mohinder Sudan, staged a demonstration demanding immediate implementation of JPC Report on Home Affairs having been submitted in the both houses of parliament on 22-12-2014 which is still pending for the acceptance of the GOI.
While addressing the DPs Gurdev Singh President JKSAC who was also invited said that despite of more than 5 decades consistent struggle made by DPs, due to non-serious attitude of the different dispensation of state and centre, no planned measures were taken to rehabilitate them adequately and finally. He said that whatever little bit relief has been given to them so far is awfully insufficient for the settlement of their generations. Land was allotted to 22,719 families settled in rural areas under a prescribed scale of 4 acres to 6 acres, 2 acres to 3 acres, irrigated and un-irrigated as per the strength of the family members. Among the said figure more than 8,000 families were allotted land below the sanctioned scale. Despite of having more than lakhs of kanals of lands available with the Custodian department of the state, their deficiencies were given no considertion but instead the poor DPs were paid inadequate compensation in lieu of their deficiencies only to 2800 families and that too, uniformly without taking into consideration the quantum of deficiencies of each family. The remaining over 5000 families are still awaiting the compensation to be paid in lieu of their deficiencies. He said that it is pitiful the land allotted was further divided among families increased many folds with the passage of time and the share received each family is now insufficient for their sustenance.
He urged upon LG Manoj Sinha to formulate a comprehensive employment policy for wards of DPs of 19047 from POK and should also stress upon the Central Govt. to provide them an employment package at the analogy of Kashmiri migrants to save them from starvation.
