JAMMU: A three-day WILL MUN Conference was conducted at Army Public School (APS) Jammu Cantt from 18th to 20th August 2023. The programme commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Chief Guest, Chairman of the School, Brig Gautam Segan, Dy GOC, 26 Inf Div accompanied by the guests of honours Dr Kirti Segan, Vice Chairman; Col K V Mahindra, CO 15 Guards, SO schools; Lt Col Hem Lata, Officer Jasmeet Singh and JKAS Officer Rakesh Dubey followed by a scintillating dance performance by the children of the school. Thereafter the Chief Guest addressed the student delegates and spoke of how such platforms could be used to enhance the oratory skills and a confident personality. The event was sponsored by Kisna Jewellers, KC Overseas and Bawa’s travels. WILL MUN (Model United Nations) was an innovative idea of two siblings namely Sehajpal Singh, Secretary General and Minal Kour, Director General and alumni APS Jammu Cantt to prepare the students to develop leadership skills, researching, writing, public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork and problem-solving skills. Moreover, coming up with solutions that are acceptable to a majority of the representatives also inculcates skills of negotiation, conflict resolution and cooperation. Keeping this perspective in mind, a delegation of over 240 students representing 8 schools, 30 Organising Committee members, 18 Executive Board, 5 Secretary Board participated in three days power packed sessions held at Army Public School Jammu Cantt. The students actively participated in discussions and debates in committees like Lok Sabha, United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Security Council(UNSC), All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM), United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) and International Press(IP). It was a treat to watch the delegates impressive opening speeches. They were also seen formulating resolutions and debating with all their might to get their resolutions passed with majority votes. The ending committee sessions on the last day were jam-packed with enthusiastic debates and relentless discussions, followed by the closing ceremony where various award categories like High Commendation, Best Delegate Award, Special and Verbal Mention from all the committees were given by the Principal, Puneet Kaur along with Vice Principal Manmeet Kour of APS Jammu Cantt. The Principal appreciated the efforts made by the secretariat for organizing such an inspirational event. She further congratulated the participants and winners in various categories awards. The Best Delegation Trophy was bagged by JK Public School Kunjwani Jammu. This WILL MUN season at APS Jammu Cantt is recognized as the most popular, disciplined and with maximum participation from all over Jammu.
