JKP to organise Inter-Battalion sports meet from June 12

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing Inter Battalion Sports Tournament-2015 at Srinagar from 12th June. The five day long tournament would have varied disciplines to be played at different venues in the summer capital, in which more than 1200 sports personnel participating.

This was disclosed by IGP (IR) Kashmir, Sunil Kumar while addressing a press conference held at Armed Headquarters, here on Wednesday.

He said to mark the celebrations of Raising Day of JKP observing every year on 12th of June, Inter Battalion Sports Tournament-2015 is being organized by J and K Armed Police from 12th to 16th June, 2015.

The organizing committee of the tournament is being headed by ADGP Armed, S M Sahai.

“Through this event we also identify talented sports person for their absorption in Central Sports team of Jammu and Kashmir Police. This tournament also helps to identify the talent that represents J and K Armed Police in Inter Zonal Sports Meet is also done via this sports event,” he mentioned.

He also disclosed that opening ceremony of the event will take place at Bakhshi Stadium Srinagar on 12th June. Director General of Police, K. Rajendra Kumar will be the Chief Guest on the occasion.

During the five-day-long tournament, 17 sports events will be played. Among these four sports events will be for GO’s and 13 for other ranks. The games to be played by both men and women during the tournament include basketball, volleyball, tug of war, wrestling, weightlifting, handball, shooting, Kabadi, discuss throw, shot-put, hammer throw, javelin throw and athletic track events.

However Judo, Hockey, Football, Long and High jump and 12 km Marathon as track event will be held only for men while as Archery will only witness participation of women sports personnel, he informed.
