JKOA elections put on hold

JAMMU: Plagued with controversies, the Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association (JKOA) could not hold its overdue elections because of a court stay sought by another state sports association.
However, the JKOA, leading sports body established to promote sports and sportspersons in the state, got the accounts of previous years approved by the general body in a meeting held this evening at Jammu Club.
The 90-minute interaction with the members concluded with an approval from the members to raise funds for felicitating those medal winners of last National Games.
Earlier, soon after the meeting got underway, general secretary of the JKOA, Dr Ashutosh Sharma informed the members present that one of the state associations has approached the court of law and subsequently, the elections have been stayed.
It has been reliably learnt that the J&K Handball Association has taken stay from the Court for not inviting to the JKOA election meeting.
The meeting was attended by Suresh Sharma, Observer from Indian Olympic Association and General Secretary Kho Kho Association of India, Ranjit Kalra, Member Standing Committee, J and K State Sports Council and who was appointed as observer.
