JAMMU: The JandK Electrical Engineers Graduate Association (JKEEGA) expressed dismay over the callous attitude of the government towards the problems being faced by the engineers of Power Development Department (PDD).
They impressed upon the government to pay attention towards the genuine concerns of the engineering fraternity and demanded disbursement of salary for the post held till regularisation, regularisation/confirmation of engineers at various cadres, assured career progression as is in vogue in other neighboring states and promotion from GP-5200 to GP-6600 as in vogue in other gazetted services of the State.
The association alleged that the government has transformed PDD into a casual entity by promoting ‘in-charge’ culture and adopting a negative approach regarding the progression of the fraternity.
Chairman, JKEEGA Pirzada Hidayatullah said that it is ironical that the degree engineers recruited in the department in 1986 are still working as Junior Engineers after putting in 30 years of service in the department.
Referring to the discrimination with the engineering fraternity, he said that Degree Engineers promoted as Assistant Engineers in 1992 are still serving as Assistant Engineers after putting 24 years of gazetted service in the cadre while as Degree Engineers recruited as Assistant Engineer under PSC quota in 1994 are still serving as Assistant Engineers from the last 22 years. He further said that Degree Engineers promoted as Assistant Executive Engineers in 1987 are still serving on the same post for the last 29 years and Degree Engineers recruited as Assistant Engineers under PSC quota in 1982 are in still in GP-5600 after serving the Department for last 34 years. Development Commissioner (Power) and Chief Engineers are drawing salary as Assistant Executive Engin-eers (NFG), Superintending and Executive Engineers are drawing salary as Assistant/Junior Engineers, Assistant Executive and Assistant Engineers are drawing salary as Junior Engineers while as 90 per cent Degree Engineer (s) are drawing salary as Junior Engineers, he rued.
