JKBOSE organises UT-Level Red-Ribbon Quiz Competition

JAMMU: A UT-Level Red-Ribbon Quiz Competition was organised by the Academic Division of J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) in collaboration with J&K Aids Control Society in which 50 schools from each district participated.
Out of them 12 teams in total were referred by various districts to JKBOSE after school level and district level competitions. These teams underwent a screening test out of which six final teams were selected for quiz competition.
The quiz was held in six rounds covering the various aspects of the theme; each team comprised of two students.
The top four teams were given cash prizes, mementos and certificates.
Team-A from Govt. Hr. Secondary School Sallan Kathua was adjudged at the first position and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10000, Team-B from Govt. High School Rarian, Samba got the second cash prize of Rs. 8000 and team-C from Little Angels Hr. Secondary School Kathua got the third cash prize of Rs. 6000 whereas, team-E from Govt. Hr. Secondary Paloura was given consolation cash prize of Rs. 4000.
In his speech the Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. Parakshit Singh Manhas, Chairman, JKBOSE appreciated the conduct of the event and enthusiasm of the participating schools. ” This event is an effective and efficient step not only towards creating awareness on crucial topics but also for training the youth to be pro-active in testing their knowledge through such activities which build confidence and boost their personality.
It is heartening to see that our team from the rural area of Kathua district will represent the UT of J&K at the regional level. Social evils are proving adversely forceful in pulling our youth down the drain so we all need to wake up to the call of creating a conscious and careful society”, he added.
Manisha Sarin, Secretary, JKBOSE was the Guest of Honour who urged the participants to actively learn such lessons of life which not only contribute to their personality but also help in making a knowledgeable society.
“Students being the effective ambassadors of creating awareness can contribute very effectively to control many social evils and practices,” she added.
Director Academics, Prof. (Dr). Sudhir Singh who is also the UT Project Director of the scheme, expressed his satisfaction over this maiden event to create awareness on HIV/ Aids and said that 21st century society is marked by spirit of deliberating on many such social issues which were considered taboos in the past and people avoided discussing them.
“Discussion leads to understanding the cause and effect of the problem, and also in finding remedies to control any evil,” he added.
Madan Lal, JKAS, Dy. Director Finance, JKSACS said that it is not the outcome of an effort which is important but its intensity and approach define the end result.
Earlier, Dr. Yasir Hamid Sirwal, Dy. Director, JKBOSE & UT Project Coordinator of the Scheme presented the formal welcome address outlining the format of the event and announced the rules of the event.
Sugandh, Academic Officer, JKBOSE, JD was the quiz master. Seema Puri, Sr. Lecturer, BHSS Gole Gujral, Jammu and Dr. Nidhi Anand, Lecturer, GGHSS Bakshi Nagar were the observers of the event.
Chander Kumar, Academic Officer, JKBOSE, JD presented the formal vote of thanks. Kashif and Dilraj Kour were the organisers of the event.
Others who were prominently present included Rajesh Sharma, Asstt. Director JKSACS, Risheesh Khajuria, Asstt Director IEC, JKSACS, Mohd Jameel Asstt Secretary JKSoS, District Coordinators from four DIETS, students and teachers from various schools, members of civil society and officials of JKBOSE, JD.
Red-Ribbon Quiz competition is a recently introduced awareness scheme under the aegis of a National Aids Controlling Organisation (NACO), and its first phase four districts viz. Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua and Samba were chosen from the UT of J&K.
