J&K women lifters bag record 5 medals in NZ

JAMMU: For the first time in the history of weightlifting, J&K women lifters bagged record five medals, including two silver at a National level recognised official event.
Participating under the banner of Weightlifting Association of J&K, the J&K women excelled in the Asmita Khelo India Weightlifting Women League Zone B that took place at Modinagar in Uttar Pradesh between September nine and September 13.
While Salbeena Aslam Shalla (71 kg) and Akam Kour (81 kg) clinched silver medals, Sharon Jamesh (87 kg), Lakshmi Devi (64 kg) and Gurpreet Kour (71 kg Youth) bagged Bronze medals.
“The women weightlifters performed exceptionally well and surprised all of us through their medal winning lifts in this North Zone level exclusively women event. The girls are working hard and we are hopeful of converting the silvers into gold next time,” general secretary of the Association told SAN.
The team as accompanied by Akash Virdhi, Dhanraj Singh, Showkat and Naman Singh.
Meanwhile, the J&K women lifters were encouraged and complimented by son of the soil and India coach, Dronacharya Awardee, Vijay Sharma of Akhnoor in Jammu.
