J&K women excel in NZ Climbing meet

JAMMU: In absence of prominent climbers of North Zone, who could not participate due to their various engagements in connection with World Bouldering Cup at Navi Mumbai, hosts J and K climbers made clean sweep of medals in Lead as well as Speed climbing in the opening round of Monthly Series of North Zone Women Sport Climbing Competition being organised by Mountaineering Association of J and K in collaboration with Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) North Zone Committee, New Delhi at Sprawling Buds School, here on Wednesday.
In a well contested competition, the J and K climbers Ambreen Fatima, Kumari Bindia and Sakshi Magotra bagged the first three positions respectively in Lead as well as Speed climbing. Only 13 women participated in the in this competition.
“The participation is likely to increase in the second round of competition which shall be conducted at the same venue on 31st May,” informed General Secretary of J and K Mountaineering Association, Ram Khajuria.
Pertinent to mention here that Mountaineering Association of J and K in collaboration with IMF, North Zone Committee has started the Monthly Series in order to promote sport climbing among North Zone women in general and to strengthen the J and K women team in particular.
Earlier, the day-long competition was inaugurated by the Chairman, IMF, North Zone Committee, S Bhattacharjee, who keenly watched the climbing moves of all the participants. He advised the participants to lay more stress on their physical fitness, stamina and power.
In the end, S. Bhattacharjee along with Director of Sprawling Buds School, Arti Sharma distributed medals among the winners. Shawetica Khajuria and another Directors of host School, Rahul Sharma were also present.
