J&K Sport Climbing Championship from Oct 25

JAMMU: The 24th J&K UT Sport Climbing Championship shall be conducted by Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here from October 25. About 300 climbers including national medalists from the Anantnag, Badgam, Kishtwar, Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama, Reasi, Srinagar, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Doda, Ramban and Udhampur besides Jammu are likely to compete in this two-day event. Since the selection of the J&K UT team for the 28th North Zone Sport Climbing Championship due to be held at Delhi in the third week of November, shall be made on the basis of performance of climbers in this competition, the event shall be held in the age groups which are included in the zonal competition, a handout issued by the Association here today informed. Accordingly, there will be only six categories of men, women (born in 2007, 2006 and earlier, Junior Boys/ Girls (born in 2008, 2009 and 2010) and Sub Junior Boys / Girls (born in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014). The competition shall be conducted strictly as per IFSC rules and only fresh international standard climbing equipment shall be used.
Whereas the specialized equipment is to be arranged by Mountaineering Association of J&K, the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) North Zone Committee shall provide adequate technical support.
While Mitra Ghosh, an international Judge in Sport Climbing shall be the President of Jury, the other technical committees shall also be headed by officials from IMF North Zone Committee.
Meanwhile, Sonam Sidharth, general secretary of District Mountaineering Association, Jammu has been nominated as the organising secretary and has been entrusted with the responsibility to form various committees for the smooth conduct of the prestigious championship.
The Championship is being organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K under the aegis of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee and sponsored by J&K Sports Council.
