JK Public School Kunjwani celebrates World Heritage Day

JAMMU: It’s not the honour that you take with you, but the Heritage you leave behind.” 18th April is celebrated every year as World Heritage Day. On this occasion of global importance, the students of Grade 8 of JK Public School Kunjwani held a special assembly with great zeal and enthusiasm.
First, an enlightening speech was delivered by Samyra to enhance awareness about the conservation and protection of cultural heritage sites and monuments around the world. It was explained how World Heritage Day which is called The International Day for Monuments and Sites, was proposed by ICOMOS in 1982 and approved by UNESCO in 1983.
As this day aims to promote awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage of humanity, their vulnerability and the efforts required for their protection and conservation, so, students expressed the significance of the day.
‘Heritage is for Generations’, so to sensitize our future generations about the vital role they can play in preserving of our monuments, another student spoke on how our precious monuments are on the brink of destruction due to the callous attitude of people who fail to understand that destroying monuments is destroying history as these monuments are not just beautiful structures but they also hold secrets of our past, our traditions and our values.
The School Principal, Rajesh Rathore, in his message urged students to preserve monuments and made them aware about the condition of heritage sites in and around our vicinity. He discussed at length the dilapidated condition of Samba Fort.
He appreciated the detailed proposal made by the students to get the work completed under various heads within a stipulated time frame to bring back the lost glory and grandeur of the historical monument. He lauded the students for making their passionate endeavours and for celebrating the day with a noble cause. He also appreciated all the teachers for instilling such social awareness in students.
