JAMMU: The J and K Police team clinched the overall trophy securing highest 22 points in the Ninth State Indian Style Wrestling (men) Championship held at Dewan Mandir Akhara, here on Thursday. The event was organised by J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association and sponsored by the J and K State Sports Council. District Reasi, with 15 points, remained runners-up while third place went to district Jammu with just seven points. District Kathua finished fourth with same figure of seven.
In total, 84 wrestlers from all over the State took part in this day-long competition. Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Jammu (East), Rajesh Gupta was Chief Guest who gave away medals, certificates and cash prizes. Joint Secretary, J and K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided.
Chief Sports Officer, Haji Abdul Qayoom and Sports Officer, Ravi Singh were Guests of Honour. Prominent among others present were Prem Choudhary (Chairman), P.R Sharma (Treasurer), Bansi Lal Tidyal (General Secretary), Mulkh Raj Sharma (Chairman Technical Committee), Shartughan Jambal (Vice-President), Naresh Kumar, Ram Paul Sharma, Om Parkash Verma, Rehmat Ali, Bodh Raj Palwan, Swarn Singh and Rakesh Khajuria.
The championship held under the overall supervision of Prem Choudhary and Shiv Kumar Sharma. Technical officials who helped in the conduct of championship included Mulkh Raj Sharma (director competition), Bansi Lal Tidyal, Kulbir Singh, Govind Singh, Prem Kumar, Sanjeev Sharma, Krishan Singh and Om Parkash Sharma.
Wrestlers who secured positions were awarded with cash prizes of Rs 2,000, 1500 and 500 respectively. The Results: 50 Kg: Jarnail Singh, Ist; Shakti Singh, 2nd; Madan Singh, 3rd and Maskeen Ali, 4th. 55 Kg: Bopinder Singh, Ist; Ranjeet Singh, 2nd; Habeeb, 3rd and Anil Chowdhary, 4th. 61 Kg: Chain Singh, Ist; Tirath Ram, 2nd; Vicku Sharma, 3rd and Kamal Kumar, 4th. 67 Kg: Sunny Sharma, Ist; Bhushan Mehra, 2nd; Saleem, 3rd and Mohd Saleem, 4th. 75 Kg: Balwan Singh, Ist; Ranjeet Singh, 2nd; Farooq, 3rd and Vijay Singh, 4th. 85 Kg: Rajesh Sharma, Ist; Gopal Sharma, 2nd; Narinder Singh, 3rd and Liaqat Ali, 4th. Plus 85 Kg: Nissar Ahmed, Ist; Dillar Khan, 2nd; Abhishek Sangral, 3rd and Vijay Kumar, 4th.
