J&K Police wins 5th SGSD Hockey Tournament

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police clinched the fifth Sant Gurbaksh Singh Danna (SGSD) Memorial Hockey Tournament beating Khalsa Warriors Amritsar 2-1 in the final played at KK Hakku Stadium, here on Monday.
In the final, first goal was scored by J&K Police in the 10th minute of the game which picked the momentum. Khalsa Warriors played attacking game and levelled the score within two minutes.
J&K Police also got the first penalty corner but they could not score.
At half time both the teams were locked at one goal each.
Khalsa Warriors team was full of young and upcoming players whereas J&K Police team was a blend of young and senior players.
J&K Police prevailed over Khalsa Warriers by scoring winning goal in the dying minutes of the game and won the match.
Today’s match was officiated by Karanjeet Singh, Jageet Singh Godly and Tournament Director Dalbir Mehta. The tournament was conducted under the patronage of Sant Tejwant Singh of Dera Sant Pura Danna for the consecutive 5th year.
Jarnail Singh of Peaks Auto Limited was the Chief Guest in the closing ceremony who in the presence of T.S Wazir President State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board, T.S Wazir, Zorawar Singh Jamwal General Secretary Press Club and Ranjeet Kalra Vice Chairman Sports Council J&K gave away prizes to winner and runner-up teams.
Addressing the gathering, Jarnail Singh advised the players to choose their profession in the sports of their choice. He said that the hockey is our national game and we are committed to uplift the game and extend all possible help.
Sant Tejwant Singh also highlighted the importance of sports in the present scenario where number of youth are attracted toward drugs. A cash prize of Rs 31,000 was presented to the winner team and a cheque of Rs 21,000, was given to the runners up. Those who contributed for the success of the tournament namely Balvinder Singh, Rajinder Singh Soodan, Ravi Singh, Ashok Singh, Harvinder Pal Singh, Janak Singh, Azat Shatru, Sandeep Kour, Waryam Singh, Iqbal Singh, M.S Reen, Jagpaul Singh and Indpal Singh were also honoured.
Amrik Singh Sasan, Avtar Singh Khalsa, Narinder Singh Khalsa, Swaran Singh, Varinder Singh, Manmohan Singh, Sharanjit Singh Shunty, Ranjot Singh Nalwa and Ravinder Singh were also present.
