Thousands throng in J&K Police’s Pedal for Peace cycle race

SRINAGAR: As a part of the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Jammu and Kashmir Police organized a cycle race “Pedal for Peace” here this morning under its Civic Action Programme(CAP).
The race was divided into seven different categories wherein 2264 professional & non professional cyclists participated. Special attraction of raffle draw was introduced in the event for the first time.
The Director General of Police (DGP) J&K Dilbag Singh and Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary) Home Department J&K, R K Goyal graced the occasion at the flag in presentation ceremony.

Pole, IGsP Vikramjit Singh, BS Tuti, DIsG Sujit Kumar,Shahid Mehraj DC Srinagar, SSP Srinagar, AIsG of PHQ, Kashmir based AP/IRP Commandants, officers from civil administration, jurisdictional officers and large number of people witnessed the presentation ceremony.
In the morning ADGP Armed J&K SJM Gillani flanked by DIG Armed/IRP Shahid Mehraj and Commandants of Kashmir based Armed as well as IRP battalions flagged off the different categories of cyclists from Lalit Ghat, Police Golf Course, Srinagar.
Speaking on the occasion, the DGP expressed his gratitude to the senior officers of Police, Civil administration, people and above all the participants for making today’s event a grand success and bigger as compared to its previous seasons.
Addressing cyclists, the DGP said that every pedal you do is changing the scenario of Jammu and Kashmir towards a new milestone of a more peaceful environment.
He said that when we get the support and company of people it not only boosts our morale but it feels we are on the same path aiming for the same goal.
The path is comfortable now and will be more comfortable in the coming times, he added.
Appreciating the participants, the DGP said that a lot of hurdles have been crossed adding that remaining hurdles would also be scaled.
“Whether in uniform or without uniform we are one family and our mission is one that is bright future for our children, safe and secure life for people of all ages,” the DGP said.
Referring to the upcoming event of Jashn-e-Dal, the DGP said that Dal Lake is our pride, Kashmir’s beauty is not talked without Dal lake and it should be our prime responsibility to help in keeping it neat and clean.
Referring to the tourist influx this year, the DGP said the beauty and the hospitality of Kashmir is the talk of the world again and hoped that it would continue to be top priority of the tourists in the coming time.
He said that the cooperation and support Jammu and Kashmir Police is getting from the people will help further in consolidating the prevailing peace. He congratulated the winners of today’s event.
Financial Commission (Additional Chief Secretary) Home Department J&K R K Goyal said that the events of J&K Police always have a special charm and depict the vibrancy of the department.
He hoped that the J&K Police will work towards organizing a cyclothon. He wished good luck to the J&K Police who would organise the All India Police Football tournament very soon and hoped that under the leadership of DGP J&K the tournament would be conducted in a befitting way.
Senior Men above 17 years (ATB) Professional cyclists, 1st prize of Rs 50,000 was bagged by Suhaib Ul Mehraj of Srinagar, 2nd of Rs 30,000 by Zamin Hassan Mirza of Srinagar, 3rd of Rs 25,000 by Ameer Shafi of Srinagar, 4th of Rs 15,000by Mashooq Maqbool of Baramulla, 5th of Rs 10,000 by Mohmiss Ismail of Budgam. 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th prizes of Rs 2,000 each were won by Wahid Ahmad of Budgam, Mohd Adil of Budgam, Adil Teli of Baramulla, Mansoor Ahmad of Budgam and Mandeep Singh of Amritsar respectively.
Winners among Senior Men above 17 years (MTB) cyclists, 1st prize of Rs 30,000 was won by Dr. Akbar Khan of Budgam, 2nd of Rs 25,000 by Adnan Bashir of Sopore, 3rd of Rs 20,000 by Anish Dubey of Jammu, 4th of Rs 15,000 by Parvez Ahmad of Budgam, 5th of Rs 10,000 by Sheikh Saqibul of Budgam. 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th prizes of Rs 2,000 each were won by Sateesh Kumar Bajiya of Jaipur (Rajastan), Manav Radha of Jammu, Rafiq Ahmad of Kashmir Harvard School, Moin Nabi of Srinagar and Aaqib Rasool of Srinagar respectively.
Winners among Girls above 14 years (MTB) cyclists, 1st prize of Rs 30,000 was won by Priyanka of Haryana, 2nd of Rs 25,000 by Sara of Srinagar, 3rd of Rs 20,000 by Zoobiya Tariq of Srinagar, 4th of Rs 15,000 by Sonal of Amritsar, 5th of 10,000 by Rs Hurmah Shah of Sgr. 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th prizes of Rs 2,000 each were won by Falak Shabir of Bemina, Farah Ahad of Srinagar, Insha Wadoo of Rainawari, Kulsum Gulzar of Baramulla and Medeha of Sgr respectively.
Winners among Junior (Boys) U/17 years (MTB) cyclists, 1st prize of Rs 20,000 was won by Jahangir Anger of Budgam, 2nd of Rs 15,000 by Mir Bahjiat Nawaz of Lal Bazar, 3rd of Rs 10,000 by Parvez Ahmad of Budgam, 4th of Rs 5,000 by Hilal Ah. Dar of Shalimar, 5th of Rs 3,000 by Younas Ah. of Budgam. 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th prizes of Rs 1,000 each were won by Miyamus Takeen of Barzulla, Harish Singh of Jammu, Abay Chodhary of Jammu, Aashsh Pal Singh of Aloochi Bagh and Muntazir Ali of Srinagar respectively.
Winners among Sub Junior (Boys) U/14 years (MTB) cyclists 1st prize of Rs 15,000 was won by Arfat Bashir of Baramulla, 2nd of Rs 10,000 by Ikhlak Hussain of Budgam, 3rd of Rs 5,000 by Wasif Ahmad of Srinagar, 4th of Rs 3,000 by Zulfkar Gazanfar of Budgam, 5th of Rs 2,000 by Mir Towseef of Srinagar. 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th prizes of Rs 1,000 each were won by Tajamul Rashid of Budgam, Atif Ali of Srinagar, Sahil Manzoor, Eashtaj Singh of Srinagar and Munawar Mehdi of Srinagar respectively.
Winners among Sub Junior (Girls) U/14 years (MTB) cyclists: 1st prize of Rs 15,000 was won by Yummna Parvaiz of Sgr, 2nd of Rs 10,000 by Nabila Khan of Sgr, 3rd of Rs 5,000 by Nawreen Zahoor of Ganderbal, 4th of Rs 3,000 by Syed Hania of Rawalpora, 5th of Rs 2,000 by Adeeba Jaan of Ganderbal. 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th prizes of Rs 1,000 each were won by Mehak Ashraf of Ganderbal, Muskaan Ashraf of Ganderbal, Mehreen of Sgr, Zehra Khurshid of Ganderbal and Fatima Wani of Hiltop Edu. Winners among Veteran (Men) above 40 years (MTB) cyclists: 1st prize of Rs 5,000 was won by Mohd Amin of Sgr, 2nd of Rs 4,000 by Dr. Sheikh Tariq of Lalbazar Sgr, 3rd of Rs 3,000 by Shabir Ahmad of Sgr., 4th of Rs 2,000 by Sajad Yousuf of Lalbazar Sgr and 5th of Rs 1,000 by Nasir Hussain Mir of Srinagar.
Raffle draw winners: 1st prize Cycle amounting to Rs 25,000 was won by Chest No.615 Jr. Boys, 2nd prize cycle amounting to Rs 16,000 went to Chest No.1189 and 3rd prize cycle amounting to Rs 15,000/- went to Chest No.463.
Youngest participant was Nabi Arham Khan 3 years old and eldest participant was Faheeb Ali (DySP).
