JAMMU: President of India Pranab Mukherjee has appointed S.K Shukla, M.K Hanjura and Sanjay Gupta as Judges of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
According to a notification issued by Joint Secretary Rajinder Kashyap, Union Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 95 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, the President of India Pranab Mukherjee has been pleased to appoint Sanjeev Kumar, Maharaj Krishan Hanjura, and Sanjay Kumar Gupta, to be Judges of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, in that order of seniority, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.
S.K Shukla was born on April 8, 1966 in village Nagrota Prehta of Tehsil Basohli. He had early education in local Government School and did matriculation from Higher Secondary School Basohli in 1981. He obtained tenth position in matriculation. He did graduation from Degree College Kathua in 1985 and LLB from Jammu University in first division in 1988. He was enrolled as Advocate with J&K Bar council in February 1989. He remained Government Advocate High Court Srinagar during 1992-1993 and 1994-1995. He also worked as Government Advocate in Jammu wing for almost two years. He was sole standing counsel for JKSSB for almost six years. He represented almost all departments of Government and PSUs.
M.K Hanjura did his graduation from Government Degree College Bemina in 1976 and completed LLB (Hons) from Kashmir University in 1979. He practiced Law in the District Courts at Budgam upto the date of his appointment as a Munsiff on January 19, 1987. He was promoted as Sub-Judge in the year 2003. He worked as special Judge Anti Corruption, Jammu Province, Chairman Sales Tax Tribunal J&K, Principal District and Sessions Judge Kathua during his tenure as District and Sessions Judge. He decided the infamous case relating to Birpur Land Scandal and many others in his capacity as Special Judge Anti Corruption Jammu Province and Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kathua.
He worked in all the rungs of the Registry of the High Court of J&K. He served twice as the Registrar General of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir. He had the distinction of working as a Registrar in the Supreme Court of India for more than 3 years. He was appointed as member (Judicial) National Company Law Tribunal in the year 2016 and worked as such for six months. He resigned from this post on 20th February 2017 and assumed the charge of the office of the Food Safety Appellate Tribunal, Jammu on 21st February 2017 and since then working as such. Sanjay Gupta presently posted as Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu was born on November 24, 1961 and did matriculation from Oriental Acadamy, Jammu.
He did BSc with medical subjects from GGM Science College Jammu and LLB from Jammu University. He joined bar in chamber of S.S Lehar Advocate and practiced in all fields including criminal, civil, revenue and MACT in subordinate court and High Court. He was selected as direct recruit in higher judicial service as District and Sessions Judge in 2004 and joined as Additional District, Judge, Doda.
He served all District and Sessions courts at Jammu, including 1st, 2nd, 3rd, additional and principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu. He also remained posted as 3rd and 4th Additional District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, Judicial Member Special Tribunal, Jammu, One man Forest Tribunal Jammu and Kashmir, Principal District and Session Judge, Leh and Principal Session Judge Rajouri.
