JAMMU: Former Minister J&K and senior Congress leader Yogesh Sawhney on Monday held a meeting of Jammu East Block No. 7 and Block No. 8 at the Congress office to discuss the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The meeting was attended by concerned Block Presidents, Ward Presidents, party members and workers belonging to the blocks.
The preparations for the Congress party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is set to arrive in Jammu this month, were discussed and reviewed in the meeting on Monday. The workers were assigned distinct roles and responsibilities for the implementation of the yatra’s schedule. The ex-MLA Jammu East has been conducting a series of meetings in Jammu East to prepare the constituency ahead of the Yatra.
During the meeting, Sawhney also condemned the militant killing of civilians in Rajouri, J&K and condoled their demise. The members present in the meeting observed two minutes of silence and prayed for the bereaved and their loved ones.
Speaking at the meeting, Yogesh Sawhney highlighted the schedule of the yatra as it pertains to Block no. 7 and 8 and reviewed ongoing preparations in the wards.
A detailed discussion with Congress leaders was held. He directed the party workers to ensure smooth mobilisation of people as and when the yatra arrives and passes through the designated areas. The route plan of the yatra was discussed in the meeting along with necessary arrangements required for the same.
Sawhney appealed to the members present in the meeting, to work with zeal and enthusiasm, to make the yatra a grand success in Jammu.
Sawhney further added that since the abrogation of Article 370 and revocation of statehood, Jammu and Kashmir has been grappling with many challenges. The security situation has worsened and terror attacks have become bolder. Drugs, crime and militant activity has increased manifold. Youth has to battle with unemployment and inflation, recruitment scams and corruption. The overall situation in J&K has changed for the worse, said Sawhney.
He further added that while BJP has forgotten and neglected Jammu and Kashmir, the upcoming Bharat Jodo Yatra intends to unite J&K against these challenges and in favor of truth.
Further addressing the media, Sawhney stated that the Congress party and leader Rahul Gandhi have taken on a magnanimous task for the betterment of the nation reminding all that Congress is not afraid to give personal sacrifices for the greater good. The people across the nation and similarly in J&K align and relate with this sentiment and hence want to be a part of the Yatra to showcase that strength lies in unity.
He added that as part of preparations for the BJY, touring various areas across Jammu, we have realised that people are eagerly looking forward to welcoming the yatra to Jammu Kashmir. “We all are ready to welcome the Bharat Jodo Yatra today. All preparations are being completed. It will be a historic Yatra and a grand success in the UT. Besides party workers, there is great enthusiasm among the people of the state for this Yatra,” he said.
