JAMMU: Creating history, J&K boys emerged as champions and girls won runner-up trophy of the 31st Junior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship organized by Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India at University of Jammu ground, here on Thursday. In the boys final, J&K outplayed Goa by 32 runs and lifted the trophy. Batting first after winning the toss, J&K set a target of 64 runs. Musharaf played a brilliant knock of 48 runs while Muheeb added 12 runs to the total. In reply, Goa could not chase the target against the quality bowling of J&K and bowled out at 32 runs. J&K skipper Ussam Khan was the wrecker-in-chief, who grabbed three wickets for just six runs. Musharaf was declared the Player of the Championship while Muheeb was declared Man of the Match in the final for his all-round performance. Goa won first runner-up and Rajasthan/Uttar Pradesh got joint second runner-up trophies. In girls section, Uttar Pradesh emerged as National Champions while J&K finished as first runner-up and Pondicherry/CBSC as second runner-up jointly. The Chief Sports Officer J&K Sports Council, Mohammad Hanief was the Chief Guest on the closing ceremony while Divisional Sports Officer Jammu Baljinder Singh was the Guest of Honour. Secretary General Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India Imran Lari along with Dr. Babbur Ayoub Chairman Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India awarded trophies to winner and runner-up teams along with the mementos to players and Federation and UT officials.
