Jitendra announces Rs 10 lakh for cloudburst victims

NEW DELHI: MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also the MP from Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha Constituency, has announced an immediate initial assistance of Rs. 10 lakh to the victims of cloud burst in Udhampur District yesterday. In a message to the District Development Commissioner of Udhampur, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Dr Jitendra Singh said that, while he had expressed his sympathies and offered to provide all possible financial and other assistance yesterday itself, today, as a voluntary gesture, he is placing an amount of Rs.10 lakh from his MP-LAD at the disposal of DC Udhampur as immediate assistance to the families who have suffered on account of unusual rainfall.
Singh said, he is also making a similar offer to District Development Commissioner of Ramban. Singh also suggested that the government will have to come out with a comprehensive plan to ensure that even if such natural calamities happen in future, the damage occurring thereof could be contained and minimized. In this respect, he also offered to solicit assistance of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Department of Space, Government of India, who have the capability of predicting and thereafter also providing an assessment of damage through satellite imaging in case of such events.
