JAMMU: Jammu Bachao Andolan (JBA) on Wednesday staged protest against the PHE Department for providing water connections to Bangladeshis, Rohingyas and other illegal immigrants.
Led by Convenor JBA, Ch Vikram Randhawa, the activists assembled at Narwal area of Jammu city and raised slogans against the PHE department for providing illegal water connections to the foreign nationals.
While addressing the protestors, Randhawa alleged that the PHE Department violating all norms has sanctioned water connections to these illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. He said that few locals of the area have obtained these connections in their name but actually water is supplied to these illegal immigrants.
Randhawa said that PHE can provide connections only to the plots where houses are constructed and that too by locals, not illegal foreigners and alleged that in this case PHE has allotted connections to the plots where no construction was ever done. He alleged that following this the locals are facing acute shortage of potable water and with the onset of the summer the situation will worsen.
Randhawa warned the PHE authorities to disconnect all these connections within 72 hours otherwise JBA activists will uproot all the pipes laid down to provide drinking water to these illegal foreigners.
Those who joined the protest include Vivek Patyal, Amit Gupta, Beli Ram, Gaurav Sharma, Murad Ali, Sadiq Ali, Mohammad Abbas, Bashir Ahmed, Ram Paul Choudhary and Satish Kumar.
