The dramatic acquittal of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa aka ‘Amma’ in a case of disproportionate assets worth Rs 54 crore surely will bring her back to power along with that it will be a strategic decider for coalition in Delhi. During her all legal battles beginning from the first term as Chief Minister in 1991-96, when she was forced to give up her chair to 2015 it was arch rival M Karunanidhi of Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) who stood to gain at a time when UPA in Centre and his government were wrapped under corruption charges. The 2011 state Assembly elections changed the fortune for ‘Amma’ with her party All India Munnenttra Kazhagam (AIADMK) decimating DMK in 2014 Assembly elections by winning 37 of 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu. This is where BJP would be looking to have an allay from south after Karnataka. The magic of Amma’s comeback after so much of legal tribulations shows her charisma in Tamil Nadu. Over 200 AIDMAK party workers lost their lives in violence following her conviction last year. That is the following of a political leader which no leader in the country has such an impact on the ruled ones. Though she has not assumed the chair but has already set the pace for a snap poll which could be DMK’s political death. A Jayalalithaa in jail and debarred from contesting elections for next 10 years was the most suitable recipe for DMK but now future stands reversed. As for BJP is concerned her 11 MPs in Rajya Sabha are expected to give greater comfort for Modi and his government. AIDMK supported NDA government in Lok Sabha on the Land Acquisition Bill on which Prime Minister Modi has staked his prestige. Jayalalthaa’s victory comes a day after Modi’s new found bonhomie with Mamta in West Bengal. These two women had given some tough moments for Modi politically in his initial days of government formation. Today with her release the equation stands changed for the Govt in New Delhi.
